Amazing where you can find inspiration

Away for a break and walk down the embankment along side the river Thames I came across these stone carved benches. Love the simple shapes and detail xx

Discovered the work of Claire Coles

Totally awesome work discovered via an ex-student. Check out her work at http://www.clairecolesdesign.co.uk

3 little dicky birds sitting amongst some seed pods

OK, here is the next instalment of my current piece, 3 little Dicky birds sitting on the pods, one called Paul, one called Peter the other called Bob lol

The birds were made individually then hand stitched onto the background. Now for the next layer of seed pods. This time I am going to use some fabric I printed with a poppy head stamp that I made.

(Small sample)

Inspiration comes from every where

On  a day out to Tropical World in Leeds with my family I came across these gorgeous birds...

Adding the reverse applique

Again I traced the next layer, added 4 layers of fabric, machine embroidered the poppy heads and got to work cutting back into the fabric...

Next will come the birds...

Birds and pods continue

3 birds and seed pods, new piece of work on the go

Here is my latest piece of work, which is still on the go. I have been influenced by birds at the moment and wanted to combine them with my seed pods and applique work so here goes...

I  started printing onto background fabric, then layered up my first collection of fabrics. Tracing my design onto tracing paper, I then machine embroidered my first collection of seed pods before cutting into them.

Then more shapes were appliqued on and further machine embroidery was done, before adding another layer of fabrics, machining and cutting into this further.

Commissioned wall hanging nearly completed

This wall hanging was inspired by the sea and the colours in the room in which it is to hang. Just a bit more to do to complete it, but I am really pleased with it and the techniques I have used. Made primarily from silk, it has applique work, soldiering iron detailing, machine and hand embroidery and embellishment.
